What is an analogy for a cell membrane?

In: Biology
[Edit]

Analogy for a Cell Membrane

Compare it to a border customs agent, inspecting what goes in or out of a "country".

Or a bouncer at a bar, keeping certain people out and allowing others in.

Answer

You may also consider the cellular membrane as the walls delineating a factory. Considering how a cell can be compared to an extremely minute factory--making products, disposing of wastes, packaging materials, &c. &c.,--it makes sense that the membrane could be seen as the walls! A guard gate or fence could also work, when we take into consideration how cellular membranes are selectively permeable.
