What is Appendicitis? |
[Edit] |
What appendicitis is .
The appendix is a small, fingerlike projection at the beginning of the large intestine that has no useful function. It does, however, easily get plugged up with intestinal debris, and can then become infected. The infection is called appendicitis and can cause anywhere from mild to severe abdominal pain (often, but not always, in the lower right abdominal area), and often nausea, and vomiting. The danger comes when, and if, the infection causes enough swelling to cause the appendix to rupture, thus spilling bacteria into the abdominal cxavity, causing peritonitis, which can be extrremely serious - even lethal.
Appendicitis
Appendicitis is an inflammation/accumulation of the appendix(which is part of your GI tract). It's quite harmless if diagnosed properly and can be fixed by a simple surgical procedure called an appendectomy. It commonly presents its self with low degree fever, or no fever at all for that matter, tenderness of the right side of the pelvic region, the impossibility to hold your knees to your chest and altered state. It also hurts when you walk. Taking antibiotics is a mistake because the drugs can sometimes mask the symptoms.
