  • It doesn't really matter that they are French and you are English. What many people forget after a wedding and the reception is the bride and groom often are too excited to eat and are starving by the time they get to their hotel so you could make up a large basket of goodies for them to take on their wedding night. Example: The French always love their wine, so put a bottle of good white and red wine in the basket; some cheeses (Brie or Camembert cheeses go well with fruit); crispy grapes; gourmet crackers; gourmet cracker spreads; a small cheese knife and a cork screw; chocolates or strawberries dripped in chocolate and you can add more if you wish. If you are doing this yourself you can find all sizes of baskets in a craft store. Put all the gifts inside and use cellophane large enough to gather at the very top of the basket and twist. Place a nice big bow on the top and if you do not know how to make a bow you can go to any flower shop and they will do it for you at a very cheap price. Be sure your wedding card is placed where it can be seen and write their name on it and in red pen put 'Congratulations .. this is for your wedding night.' If this idea does not appeal to you then go to a trophy shop (this is very much the fad in British Columbia, Canada) and ask if they have a silver scroll (with ornate legs) so that the bride and groom can put their marriage license in it and leave it in open view in their home. You can have their names and date of marriage engraved on it.
