Most of your major retail outlets will grant their own credit card. Be careful ... these credit cards may have extremely high interest rates (over 25% or higher) which, if upon you making ONE late payment, can ruin your personal credit history for the next seven years!!
Standard rule for new credit card holders: Do not charge any greater amount than you can pay off (IN FULL) by the end of the month!! If one follows this simple rule, your credit history will flourish. It only takes one missed monthly payment to totally screw up ones credit history - even if one has consistently made on time payments for 35 years - miss just one payment and it messes up things for about 7 years. Seems nobody cares to look at the 'good payments' - when a late payment is posted, the sky seems to fall.
Wait a few years and get a major card from other than a retail outlet. Terms are much better with lower interest rates.

Bealls of Florida is fairly easy to get. I have had the card for about 6 months. I also have a Marathon Card, which was easy to get. After about 6 months, Marathon more than tripled my limit. I went from a $150 to $500. I used it around Christmas and maxed it out in a week and repaid it, then used it again. I only spend about $50 a month on the card. I have haven't yet gotten an increase on the Bealls card.
