Capital punishment is being legally put to death. There have been many forms throughout history, some on the less gruesome are; Hanging, gassing, electrocution, lethal injection, hung drawn and quartered also beheading.

In Furman V. Georgia in 1972, capital punishment was abolished in the United States for being arbitrary and capricious.
Capital punishment was brought back in 1976 with the case Greg v. Georgia.
1976 also saw 4 other cases: Profitt v. Florida, Jurek v. Texas, Roberts v. Louisiana, and Woodson v. NC
Profitt v. Florida- finds that allowing judges to rule as the sole sentencing authority was not unconstitutional.
Jurek V. Texas- finds that including both aggravating and mitigating reasons in a case is constitutional.
Roberts v. Louisiana- finds mandatory death penalty laws violate the 8th and 14th Amendment.
Woodson v. NC- finds not including mitigating evidence is unconstitutional.
Coker v. Georgia- 1977 finds that the death penalty for the rape of an adult woman is "grossly disproportionate" and thus unconstitutional.
Atkins v. Virginia- 2002 finds that executions of mentally retarded persons are cruel and unusual and unconstitutional.
Roper v. Simmons- 2005 finds that standards of decency have evolved so that executing minors is a cruel and unusual punishment and thus unconstitutional.
Kennedy v. Louisiana- 2008 finds that rape of a child where the crime did not result in death is cruel and unusual and thus unconstitutional.
McCleskey v. Kemp- 1987 finds that unless a defendant can prove willful racial discrimination in his own case/ trial these is no constitutional violation.
Booth v. Maryland- 1987 finds that victim impact evident cannot be admissible during the sentencing phase of capital trials.
Payne v. Tennessee- 1991 overturns Booth v. Maryland and finds that victims' impact statements are admissible during the sentencing phase of capital trials.
Baze v. Rees- 2008 finds that Kentucky's four cocktail lethal injection protocol is not unconstitutional.
Lethal injection is at time the only available option for capital punishment. Previously there were electrocution, gas chamber, and firing squad.

Capital crimes are punishable by death. Murder of a Law Enforcement officer, murder in a particular gruesome or heinous nature. Murder during the commission of a crime etc. It largely depends on the legislation of the country. What may be considered a 'capital' crime in one country may not be in another. There are many countries that have abolished capital punishment completely.
Sikhs Believe that the law should protect weaker members o f society from criminals most Sikhs oppose capital punishment as it is like killing in cold blood. However some Sikhs are not totally against capital punishment as the threat may provide a deterrent to protect society.
It depends on the context and the child. In some cases, a slap could be considered spanking, and acceptable physical punishment. In other cases, a slap could fall outside the bounds of punishment and be considered abuse.
