Channel proteins are integral proteins (also transmembrane proteins) which has pores that allow passage of water and hydrophilic solutes through the cell membrane.

some are open while others are gates that can be open or close in respond to different stimuli:

1. Ligand gate---> in respond to chemical

2. Voltage gate---> in respond ot electrical potential across the plasma membrane

3. Mechanical gate--> in respond to physical stress on a cell (strech, pressure)

Channel protein is a transport protein that provides a tunnel through the membrane that is specific for what can enter in it.channel proteins are the transport proteins also called integral membrane proteins that the substances to move from one side of membrane to an other side . These channel proteins have specific charge and diameter and allows specific types of molecules to pass through it . For instance, potassium channels permit passage of potassium ions across the cell membrane 1000 times more readily than sodium ions.
