The US is an example of a nation which has many states, and is therefore a multistate nation. The United Kingdon could be called a multinational state. But if you, the questioner, really means what you say in the question then the US is your prime example.

∙ 14y agoExamples of city states from history would include Athens and Sparta in ancient Greece. Venice was also a city state. The only current entities that I can think of that would possibly qualify for that designation are the Vatican and Monaco.
