A decision is always a good place for some tension - will the character make the right choice? Will they be fooled by the villain and make a mistake? Will their secret desires make them choose unwisely? Will they wimp out and pick the easy way instead of the hero's road? Any time you have a choice, you can make it more tense by showing the character's decision-making process and have the readers wondering which choice is going to win out.

The grandmother's attempts to manipulate and reason with The Misfit create a palpable sense of unease and power struggle, as their differing values and beliefs clash. How can you create tension in a story?

My recommendation for creating tension in a story, would be to add some sort of mystery that separates two different characters because of how different those two characters' ideas and opinions are. If you feel tension in the story, then your readers are bound to feel it too if you wrote it correctly.
