For something to have mass it has to take up space and have weight. Somethings don't take up space or have weight such as light, air, emotions, thoughts, ect.
Mass refers to the amount of matter in any given object. In other words, it is the equivalent of the energy content. In order to convert mass to energy you would use Albert Einstein's formula E = Mc2.
Examples of mass include:
Mercury (3.302 x 1023 kg)
Venus (4.8685 x 1024 kg)
Earth (5.9736 x 1024 kg)
Mars (6.4185 x 1023 kg)
Jupiter (1.899 x 1027 kg)
Saturn (5.6846 x 1026 kg)
Uranus (8.6832 x 1025 kg)
Neptune (1.0243 x 1026 kg)
Mass is anything that takes up space.
Things include;
Beds, chairs, tables, desks, trees, books, land, etc.
We sometimes experience the effect of mass, but we often confuse it with weight. But everything that has weight on earth does have mass. Heavier objects do have more mass. If you happen to be aware that a one pound object will weigh something different than one pound if you weighed it on, for example, the moon, then you can mentally demostrate the difference between weight and mass. Imagine a plain, old-fashioned balance scale. You've seen them, and you may have had a chance to use one. Imagine having an accurate set of counter-balancing objects of different mass that goes along with the balance scale. Your one pound object will weigh differently on the moon, (you have to bring along an ordinary weight scale) but when you put the object on the balance scale, it will be the very same counter-balances that will cause the scale to balance as when you use the balance scale on earth, or any other planet. One effect of mass (not weight) that we do experience is the acceleration and deceleration when we are traveling in cars, planes, trains, etc. If you were to be accelerated on the moon's surface, or in space, you would feel the same effect as when you are accelerated in the same way here on earth's surface. This would be true even though you would weigh less on the moon, and would be weightless in space.

Mass is a property of all physical objects. Weight is pretty much the same as mass for ordinary purposes.
Technically weight is the force of gravity acting on mass, but since gravity is constant in everyday applications, weight can be used as a measure of mass.
