If a rock is balanced on the edge of a cliff if has gravitational potential energy because it could gain kinetic energy (movement) which no input of energy. as the rock fall the gravitational potential energy is turned into kinetic energy as it runs out of height to speed up in. Batteries have electrical potential energy because they can give an electrical current by using up their power. Hydrocarbons like wood, fat and oil have chemical potential energy because they can give off heat and light energy when they are chemically reacted (combusted/burned). A spring has elastic potential energy because it can go from not moving to moving without being pushed or thrown, it converts the tension in it's fibres into kinetic energy while trying to return to it's original shape.

Whats an example of potential chemical energy?

potential energy is the stored energy of position possessed by an object

Stored energy is known as?

I don't believe there is a special word for stored energy, I would just call it that, "stored energy". Energy of position is called potential energy. For example, if you lift a weight against the force of gravitation, the energy you transfer to the object is stored as gravitational potential energy. At a higher position, it has more of this energy than when it is at a low position.

Is electrical potential energy stored energy?

Sure Is ! An Example For This Would Be a Car Parked On The Rode its storing its energy with is potential

Is dam water an example for potential energy?

Yes. When u use the word potential energy,it means stored energy. A water being hold in the dam above ground contains stored gravitational potential energy.

What kind of energy is stored energy?

This is called potential energy, because it is available when required

What is energy stored in an object called?

Stored energy is called Potential EnergyStored energy is called Potential energy.

Do nuclear energy have stored energy?

Yes. For example, an atom of uranium-235 has stored energy (potential energy); after it splits, this is released, mainly as heat energy.

What is a example of an object with potential energy?

A ball held above your head. It has stored potential energy because it will become kinetic energy when dropped.

Is stored mechanical kinetic or potential energy?

Stored energy is basically potential energy.

Two general types of energy are kinetic energy and?

Potential energy. An example of potential energy is a charged mouse trap. An example of kinetic energy is the mouse trap being sprung. Potential energy can be thought of as "stored kinetic energy". And kinetic energy can be thought of as "released potential energy"
