Unfortunately, the question of animal cruelty does not fall under the umbrella of expertise. It is a question of individual, community, and national moral principles. Animal cruelty, like other forms of cruelty including slavery, child and spousal abuse, the death penalty and war are controversial issues which evolve in a cultural context over time. It depends upon legal policies of what or whom is included into the moral sphere that encompasses the rights of an individual or group:What is acceptable by a society today (i,e slavery) may be deemed horrendous tomorrow.

It's a horrible thing. We are animals also. I'm sure many people would agree they wouldn't want to be beaten all the time, forced to fight one another, left to die/starve/dehydrate...etc.

A logically valid answer:Humans are animals.

Animals hurting other animals is a natural part of life.

Various counters to this will be that humans have higher morals or intelligence.

The response to each is that humans have morals as low and as high as anything, and what we call morals are arbitrary standards anyway, not absolutes. Intelligence is merely a property: cats have claws, and they kill mice; dogs have teeth and they bite smaller animals. Usage of our inherent properties is normal and natural, and if that results in harm to another creature in deference to benefit for ourselves, why should we not exercise this ability.

I think it is horrible that people abuse animals! Why would someone ever want to hurt an animal?
