first off all the R4 card is not illeagal because they used to sell them at any wal-mart stores but they don't any more you can buy these at these stores they are www.Amazon.com www.dscardworld.com and sometimes on www.eBay.com
they are for Nintendo ds,ds lite,and the new DSI it comes with a CD to install
it comes with a ds game card and a usb adaptor you have to buy a micro sd card
to put in the usb adaptor then you plug it in your computer or laptop.
Backing up games you already own is perfectly legal but downloading free games that you haven't already bought is illegal. It is perfectly fine to own one and it's useful not having to pack 20 cartridges on holiday for example!
You can download all ds games to the SD card, and play them freely with the r4 card. The r4 card enable you to play free games on Nintendo 3DS, DSi and DS.

∙ 13y agoWell once you buy the r4 ds you will find that in the box there is the r4 card, a usb stick and a micro sd chip whip goes in the top of the r4card where the space is. you put the micro sd chip in the r4 and put it in your ds. turn it on once it is on and it has loaded there will be three options game multimedia and slot 2. hope this helps1
