  • Guests at a wedding should only give as much money as they can afford and the bride and groom should be gracious enough to appreciate any amount of money they may get. Often people will give $50 - $500 depending on their financial status and sometimes the parents of the bride and groom will give the most money.

I think the amount of money is not important, the gift you choose should have a practical and memorable, look here: top10bestgiftideas.blogspot.com/2014/08/top-10-best-wedding-gifts-ideas.html

The rational I have always used when deciding how much to spend on a friends wedding gift is 'How much would I want them to spend on me?' Or 'How much do I think they would spend on me?' Which gives me an approximate figure to work with.

For myself it also varies with how close I am to the friend and how well off I am financially at the time.

The best indicator to whether or not you have spent enough money is when you give them the gift. If you are happy to give them the gift you have selected you know you have chosen wisely.

  • If you prefer to give money rather than a wedding gift then only give your sibling on her wedding day money that you can afford and do not put yourself in debt. Your sibling should be happy with any amount you can afford.

if you are invited to the wedding, it is customary to give a gift in the amount "per head". If it costs $100 a head at the reception, you should cover that cost.
