Pneumonitis refers to a lung inflammation. Basalmeans at the base of the lung. This word is often used in basal crackles. These are sounds made when the air sacs "pop" open with each breath. It can be heard using a stethoscope.

Right basal pneumonia would be synonymous with an infection in the lower part of the right lung. The right lung is divided into three lobes; a superior (on top), a middle and an inferior (basal) lobe. A right basal pneumonia would correspond to a pneumonia confined to the inferior lobe on the right side.

This is a lobar pneumonia (i.e. confined to one lobe)
