Acturaly, 3G stands for third generation of mobile telecommunications technolog. You have to pay for the 3G use for the phone company.
Ipad with 3g means you can buy a sim card from phone company, insert the SIM card into your iPad, pay for the 3g network fee and get your data plan. Then you can access to internet with 3g network.
For wifi- only editon iPad, there is no place to insert a 3g sim card.

∙ 12y agoEven though it is the more expensive option for this Apple device, the iPad with 3G might be a good purchase if you plan on utilizing this device a lot as you are on the go. You will then need the 3G service from one of the various cell phone service providers like AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Just remember that this will require a monthly fee, so if you don't want to pay for this, simply purchase the non-3G iPad.
