Binge eating means to eat a lot at once, often way too much, even to the point of discomfort. People who binge eat have a hard time knowing when to quit eating once they start. These people usually will eat normally for a while then binge eat. This is often because of depression or anxiety and eating may temporarily make them feel better like a drug. Most experts believe binge eating is psychological but may have biological causes. Binge eating is hard for people to control and is often associated with poor self esteem especially if the binge eating causes them to become obese. These people will often try and hide there binging from others. To complicate things they often binge on addictive foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt but low on nutrition. Binge eaters may need therapy as well as consolation of a dietitian or nutritionist. Often binge eating can be cured if people can change their eating habits to nutritional foods such as more fruit and vegetables and less processed food and never eat fast foods. Fast foods are designed to be addictive and may even have chemicals in them to make them even more addictive! Salads are great and there are many nutritious and good tasting things that can be put in a salad. If a person can stay on nutritious foods for awhile they usually begin to lose their craving for junk food. Try to also get a balanced diet follow the food pyramid or consult a nutritionist. I feel the vegan diet is a little too extreme in the other direction because it is hard to get a balanced diet. If you are a vegan I highly recommend taking a vitamin to be sure you get enough B12 and other things that are hard to get from only vegetable sources. I am convinced a lot of binge eating and other eating disorders are aggravated by all the crap and chemicals that are added to our food supply here in the US. It costs more, but buy your food at a health food store if you can.
