What is blasphemy? |

Answer
I would suggest that the accepted definition is deliberate disrespect for God. As I understand it, it can be any spoken or written word, any deed or act or even any thought which is specifically aimed at insulting or dishonouring God. It can, I believe take the form of criticism of God's nature or His actions or even His existence. It will include mockery and ridicule and making any curse against God - generally it's abusing God.
Blasphemy may also occur indirectly or unintentionally - there may be no intention to blaspheme but making God unimportant in our lives allows carelessness in choosing the words we use (or deeds performed) and allows blasphemy to occur. For example, habitually taking the Lord's name in vain or swearing an oath you have no intention of keeping.
It's possible to get carried away with what is and isn't blasphemy but as a rule I would suggest that you place any other loved one in front of the words or action you are about to use. If you would prefer the words not to be used against them then it's certainly best you don't use them to God!
