T.S. Eliot's book "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" is the basis for this award-winning musical. However, to describe it is almost impossible.

A very simple overview, is that the cast is entirely cats - gathered for the 'Jellicle Ball' that occurs each year. ('Jellicle' is the term used by the cats to describe themselves.) An ensemble cast largely introduces one after another to the audience, while celebrating the event, interspersed with a variety of music (including the legendary "Memory"). At the end, the elder cat, Old Deuteronomy takes one of the the attendees to the Heaviside Layer to begin a new life (a symbol for heaven).

CATS is about a group of cats that come together every year and decide which cat will go to the Heavyside Lair (cat heaven) and start a new life.
