Codeine is an opioid narcotic that binds to μ opioid receptors. It is used for blocking moderate to moderately-severe pain. It is also prescribed for cough suppression and chronic diarrhea. Codeine is usually prescribed with APAP (acetaminophen or Tylenol) when used for pain relief.
