What is colective noun?

Answer

A noun that represents more than one thing. "People" is a collective noun. "Team" also, where it represents all the players on one side of a game. In British English, collective nouns are usually followed with plural verbs (since a team is many people); in American English with singular verbs (since it is only one team). Also, such nouns as "flock" (for birds or sheep), "herd" (for cattle), "school" (for fish), etc., are collective nouns.
