Hot magma rises from the core (5000 degrees celsius), it cools as it leaves it leaves the core, and sinks. As more hot magma comes up, it forms a current, a convection current! This is believed to be the motion behind a plate tectonics.

A section of air is heated by the sun, causing that air to rise. Cold air close to the ground rushes in to fill the gap that the rising air left. The warm air begins to cool as it gains altitude and begins to fall back down, while the cool air that rushed in to fill the gap begins to warm and rise. The cooled warm air falls into place with the air that is rushing in to fill the gap. This goes on repeatedly, causing a cycle.

Ocean currents result from two processes - the action of wind on the surface of the water, and from variation in water temperature that causes movement- a process known as convection. Convection occurs because the oceanic waters heat up becoming less dense.

Convection currents move in upward direction

Do convection currents cause earths heat?

No. Convection currents are the circular motion of earth's wind. If the earth did not rotate, convection currents would not be. Does that make sense?
