Cross-cutting is an Explorative Strategy and is used a lot in Drama. Once you have created a series of scenes you use Cross-cutting to re-order them and create a piece of drama that moves forwards and backwards in time and also can move locations too.
cross cutting is when you cross over to another scene to see whats happening. kinda like split scene. it cn also be used to show another side of the character
Cross cutting in drama shows two events that are happening at the same time. The scenes must be shown one after the other in a play, but the audience knows that in the fictional world, they are happening at the same time.
you get to view a similar sinario from different character's perspectives. it also helps you understand why a certain character does something later on of before in the play. e.g someone is talking about divorce and how its stupid and the protagonst slaps them and runs off stage. later on there could be a cross cutting scene between the parents point of view of how they behave talking to each other about divorce (a civil manor) and from the point of view of the protagonist, where the parents are shouting about divorce (in an aggressive manor). this would then help us to understand why she slapped the other character in the first place.
One of the earliest forms of drama was tragedy drama. Also, classical drama and romance drama were two of the very earliest forms of drama.
