A Dairy farm is a farm where the main aim of the enterprise is the production of milk. Dairy does not specifically refer to cattle, a dairy could also milk goats, sheep, camels or any other mammal that lactates.

∙ 10y agoDairy farming is a form of agriculture where livestock--most commonly cattle--are specially bred and artificially selected to produce greater quantities of milk than they would naturally produce, to help fulfill a great demand by those who cannot raise their own cows to get their own milk. Cows (mature female bovines) are the most valued and prized possession of the dairy farm and are what make a dairy farm a dairy farm. Male dairy cattle are, essentially, the "by-products" of the dairy industry that are sold and raised to be slaughtered for veal because there is no need for them and because dairy bulls are often much more dangerous to own and care for than most dairy cows--or even beef bulls or cows.
Most of the world's dairy herd--that's around 90%--is made up of Holsteins. The rest comprise of Jersey, Brown Swiss, Ayrshire, Guernsey, and other lesser-known dairy breeds that are often used and raised as family milk cows.
Dairy farms also consist of other animals like sheep and goats, some breeds which are selected for dairy production just like the Holstein cow, which are raised for the same reason Holstein cows are.
Milk that is collected from cows, sheep and goats are pasturized and made into various products such as drinkable milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and other dairy products.
