Best Answer

Soap is made from a combination of the following sodium or potassium, the salts of fatty acids (not exactly how the film 'Fight Club' portrays it), extracted by a process known as 'Saponification' and then hydrogenize the them, and glycerol and crude soap. Shape the product, pack it and off to the stores it's sent. I am sure there is more methods involved, but that is a brief look. Some soaps can also be made from vegtable oils. pig fat amd intestines Close--fat and lye.

Is soap solid?

Soap is partially comprised of fatty acids; long molecules derived from plant or animal fat. The liquid soaps use shorter, fats, which tend to be more liquid than solid (compare olive oil, for example, to palm oil). The above does not answer the question... The answer is that soft soaps tend to dissolve more readily into water, due to the ions of the soap being able to stabilise and disperse into the water. Hard soaps tends to have ions that make dissolution into water difficult. In other terms, soft soap dissolves easily, where as hard soaps do not. To add to this - soaps made with KOH (caustic potash) give more soluble soap molecules than those made of NaOH. Therefore KOH soaps are soft and are used for liquid soap production and NaOH soaps are hard.

Does liquid soap break fat faster than bar soap?

Liquid soap is made to mix with water faster than bar soap. Therefore can break up the molecules of fat faster. However if bar of soap was swished about in very hot water it would form a washing up water just about equal to the liquid soap. This was the way we did it in the 1930's using a small wire basket just big enough to take the bar of soap.
