What is difference between Linux and Embedded Linux?

In: Linux

Answer

To give an example, a Cell Phone or PDA has 'Embedded Linux" installed. The operating system has no direct way for the user to modify it, and 'Linux" is an operating system that you can install on any computer as long as the computer it self meets the minimum requirements, and Linux can be modified in billions of different ways.

Answer

Embedded linux is designed to be crazy small and optimized for embedded applications. Embedded applications usually require no user interaction, have no monitor, no hd, and are on ROM or FLASH memory. This is a totally different environment than a PC. Embedded linux is optimized for this. (To the best of my knowledge)
