1.circuit switching statically reserves the required bandwidth in advance whereas packet switching acquires & releases it as it is needed.

2.With circuit switching any unsed bandwidth on a allocated circuit is just waisted.with packet switching it may be utilised by other packets .

3.Circuit switching needs to set up an end to end path before any data can be sent.

4.When packet switching is used it is straight forward for router to provide speed and code conversion.

5.In packet switching packet may be delivered in the wrong order.

6Packet carriers usually base theier charge on both the no. of bytes(or packets carried and connect time.

7.with circuit switching, the charge is based on the distance and time only, not the traffic.

What is Difference between message switching network and circuit switching network?

A circuit switching network physically changes the connection before it sends a message. This would be like the old pulse phone relay system. When you spun the dial on your phone for each number, there would be a switch that would physically move at the other end of the line. Each number switched you to a different set of switches which would in turn combine to make a physical route to your destination. A message switching network is what modern phone systems and computers use to communicate. Most computers use a "Store and Forward" type of switching. Once a network switch receives a message, it stores the entire message in memory, then sends it towards its destination. With message switching, there is no physical switching of the wires. All wires are connected to a processor which determines how to handle the message. For a good explanation of message switching and how packets work on the internet, watch the free movie "Warriors of the Net" from the website below. http://www.warriorsofthe.net/movie.html

What is the essential difference between massage switching and packet switching?

message switching: sends the entire message to an alt router route to get to the end user.packet switching: breaks the message into packets and sends them to the end user, using the path with the lightest load or least traffic at the time of transmit. Packets can be sent in order or not and are re-assembled at the recieving end in the correct order by packet number.

Packet switch and message switch?

packet switching can be considered an improvement over message switching.Similar to message switching, packet switching forwards data on first come first serve basis between nodes and no dedication connection is made (as it is done in circuit switching). But unlike message switching, packet switching puts an upper limit on the maximum size of the packet. If the packet size is greater than the maximum,it is segmented and then transmitted. Each segment has separate header which increases the overhead. But it reduces the average delays. Also in case of packet switching data is not stored for later transmission to a currently busy or inactive terminal. It just takes care of data transmission between nodes

What is the main differences between different switching techniques?

The main difference in different switching techniques are:Circuit switchinginvolves setting up a series of intermediate nodes, in order to propagate the sending node's data to the receiving node. In such a situation, the communication line can be likened to a dedicated communication pipe.In circuit switching a session needs to be established between the PC's for communication which is not in the case of packet based switching, where different packets may take different routes to reach the destination and will be assembled to get the original message.Circuit switching is used in Telephone networks where as packet switching is used in TCP/ IP and the internet.Message switchinginvolves transmitting the message sequentially from one node to another. Each node waits until it has received the entire message before sending it to the next node.Packet switchinginvolves splitting information into data packets, transmitted separately by intermediate nodes and reassembled when they reach the final recipient. It is a new technology and economic than the circuit switching approach. It is usually a connection less service.Rate This Answer

Difference between packet switching and message switching by table format?

In Packet switching the packetss are stored and forwarded from primary storage (RAM) while in Message switching the message are stored and relayed from seconadary storage (disk). In Packet switched network data are transmitted in discrete units of potentially variable length blocks called packets, while in Message switching mecahnism a node recives a message stores it until the apporiarate route is free, then sends it along. Message switching sends data units that can be of any length. Packetswitching has a maximum packet size. Any message longer than that is splitup into multiple packets.

Packet switching and circuit switching?

Circuit switching is the technique used in voice communications. Circuit switching sets up a - physical or copper path between the two parties involved. This path remains until the call is completed, and for the duration of the call, it is dedicated solely to the call. Establishing a circuit can involve a long set-up time while the common carrier searches for a free copper path. No data can be transmitted until the circuit is established. Once established, information entered at the calling point is immediately conveyed to the called point. Packet switching evolved from message switching, but it is much faster, and therefore, better suited to interactive data transfer. Like message switching, packet switching requires no copper path. Instead of sending an entire message to the switching nodes, however, the source node divides the message into packets of a fixed length, and transmits these packets. Each packet has a header that includes the address of the destination node, as well as a sequence number, indicating the position of the packet in the message. In packet switching, the source node transmits packets to the first switching node in the network. This node may hold the packets for a short period of time, less than a second. Its purpose is to move each packet it receives as fast as possible by the best available route. It holds each packet until it has been successfully received by another node. - Jvy (MKJB)

What is the difference between a channel and a medium in communication?

the difference between channel and medium is that channel is the form how the message will be while medium is the actual message
