'Unlocked' vs 'Jailbroken'"Unlocked" simply means that the phone is able to use any SIM card from any network. For example, if you bought an iPhone bundled with AT&T, unlocking it will let you put in a SIM card from any other network.

"Jailbroken" means you are not limited to Apple's standard OS. By jailbreaking an iPod you will be able to access many more features such as adding an Android lock to your phone or displaying custom application icons. However, jailbreaking voids your warranty and you risk bricking your iPod when you jailbreak it.

Well a locked cell phone means that the programming section, IE Cell provider, ESN and other non user programming features are locked so they can't be changed or accessed without unlocking that section of the programming. Unlocked means that the programming information can be altered without the need of programming software or cables.

A locked phone are designed to use a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card that stores subscriber data. The SIM card is issued by a carrier and will work only for that carrier.and unlocked cell phone will recognize a SIM card from any carrier. The "lock" is a software setting that keeps the cell phone "loyal" to one carrier.
