Also known as "Drunken Fist," "Drunken Boxing," or "Drunken Master," the Drunken Kung fu is a method of fighting, originating in China, where the Martial Artist imitates the movements of a person who is drunk, even though he is not. The benefits of this is mainly to keep your opponent off guard, and cause them to underestimate your skills. By appearing to be drunk and staggering, you can "stumble" about while seemingly accidentally bumping into your opponent, tripping them or knocking them down. Strikes with hands, elbows, knees or head butts appear to be done by accident rather than as willful attacks. The Master can pretend to be drinking while fighting, enabling them to use drinking vessels (glass, mug, or jug) to "accidentally" spill alcohol in the face of the attacker, or block and strike using the drinking vessel.
In this method, it appears that the defender is out of control, and does not know what he is doing, when, in fact, he has complete control, and every move and technique is skillfully applied to be precisely accurate. Another benefit is that the motions of a drunk individual keeps you very lose and relaxed which aids in protecting your body from injury, and increases the speed, reflexes, and fluidity of movement.
