What is eisegesis?

[Edit]
This refers to a method of Bible interpretation, generally regarded as invalid, whereby the interpreter reads things into the biblical text which are not actually there. The Greek word eis means 'into', hence the idea of 'reading into' a passage something which is not there.

Eisegesis is usually held in contrast to the correct method of exegesis from the Greek word 'ex' meaning 'out of' with the idea of leading or extracting the correct meaning from the text itself, rather than reading things into it.
