EN8 is a through-hardening medium carbon steel which is often used for making axles, shafts, gears, bolts, and studs. EN8 can be machined very easily. Mild steel is the least expensive kind of steel as well as the most commonly used. Mild steel is weldable, very hard, and very durable even though it rusts. Mild steel is less brittle, and able to flex to avoid breakage.
