Footpath erosion is the wearing away or erosion of a footpath, typically seen where excessive numbers of people walk. This usually happens in National Parks because people wear hiking boots on the footpath, which weaars it away.

Foot path erosion occurs when an excessive number of people walk on a path, usually most common at national parks. it could also happen when a considerable amount of people walk on a grass area, the grass eventually dies and a path is formed. Hope this helps.

Some maintenance volunteers use natural, flat rocks nearby to place on the footpath. This prevents more soil being worn away. Others remove obstacles that tourists have to take a detour around and others control vegetation and brooks and streams.

When a pathway becomes warn by walkers, it becomes muddy. People realise that it is muddy and so walk to the side of the path which has been slightly eroded and by walking next to it they erode this part too
