However, it is a cause of concern. Doctor will require more frequent visits, urinalysis, and possibly more bloodwork. It's important to follow your doctor's orders, so you protect the baby. However, most times, the Gestational Diabetes will improve. It can predispose you to developing diabetes later in life, but that risk is low.
