Helium is a very light element that is a gas at normal temperatures.

Almost all helium atoms contain 2 protons and 2 neutrons and can be made from protons in nuclear fusion within stars, and in thermonuclear explosions. Helium nuclei are one form of decay of radioactive elements, being released as "alpha particles."

Obviously helium is used in helium balloons, however, it is used in much more. it can be used like neon and turns creamy pale peach when an electric current flows through it. it is also used in helium-neon lasers and is a replacement for hydrogen in airships.

Mainly empty space.

A helium atom has by definition 2 protons, but the other things can vary. Helium atoms commonly have 2 neutrons, although this can vary with a small proportion having either 1 or 3 neutrons (very, very occasionally more or less). In a neutral atom (which is what helium is basicly all the time) there would be 2 electrons also (this can vary also but only in high-energy conditions.

The protons and neutrons can also be broken down into quarks (two up quarks and a down quark for each of the protons and two downs and an up for neutrons making 6 up and 6 down quarks altogether (usually, see above) (but I think that's a little too much detail...)

The protons and the neutrons are all together in a clump called the nucleus of the atom with the electrons moving around elsewhere (not part of of the nucleus).

Because helium is a noble gas, it doesn't combine easily. Therefore, it is used to make balloons float. There are other examples in Google

Helium is a chemical element. It has nothing in it but helium. This element has the atomic number 2, and is the second most abundant element in the universe behind hydrogen.

What is each planet's atmosphere made of?

Mercury's atmosphere is almost nonexistent but may have a very little bit of helium, sodium, and oxygen. Venus' atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide, nitrogen. Earth's atmosphere is made up of oxygen and nitrogen, with small amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases. Mars' atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon, less than 1% oxygen and carbon monoxide. Jupiter's atmosphere is made up of hydrogen, helium, and methane .
