Best Answer

The similarity in-between different species and different phylogenetic groups that shows which ones are more closely related based on their amount of traits in common example/ similarities between chimps and humans compared to the similarity between humans and a fish. This also covers similarity in genes and you could even say that different non-living things like TVs have homology.

the terms homologous usually refers to chromosomes. In humans there are two complete sets of 23 chromosomes. We receive one set from the maternal parent (mother) and one set from the paternal parent (father). That means we each have two copies of chromosome 1, two copies of chromosome 2, and so on. The two copies of each pair are referred to as homologous chromosomes. because they both contain the same genetic information. (homo means same or similar)
