AnswerImpact Loading
  • Generally when the strength of machine elements are considered it is assumed that the loading is static or applied gradually. This loading condition is often not the case, the loading may be cyclic requiring assessment for fatigue. Fatigue Index or it may involve impact or suddenly applied loads. When loads are applied suddenly and when the loads are applied as impact loads the resulting stresses induced in the machine elements are much higher than if the loads are applied gradually.
  • It is normal practice to design machines such that impact loads are eliminated or reduced by inclusion of shock absorbers. Inclusion of low cost, mass produced, shock absorbers can virtually eliminate the increased loads resulting from impact loads.
  • Most ductile materials have strength properties which are a function of the loading speed. The more rapid the loading the higher the tensile and ultimate strengths of the materials. . Two standard tests, the Charpy and Izod, measure the impact energy (the energy required to fracture a test piece under an impact load), also called the notch toughness.
  • The detailed assessment of the strength of machine elements under impact loading regimes involves use of advanced techniques including Finite Element Analysis. Impact loads result in shock waves propogating through the elements with possible serious consequences. It is possible to complete relatively simply stress evaluation for suddenly applied and impact loads by using the principle of conservation of energy and assuming the materials considered respond to the loading elastically.

sudden load differ from impact load by the velocity of loading

What is the difference between impact strength and toughness?

impact strength is sudden load bearing capacity & toughness is steady load bearing capacity.

What is the difference between dynamic load and impact load?

a dynamic load is one that varies with time, sucha sproduced in road trandsportation. It could be amplified at resonance. An impact load is a dynamic load opf short duration, such as dropping a rock onto a surface, resulting in possible high acceleration depending on the stiffness.

Why can load bearing and high impact exercise be beneficial to the skeletal system?

Load bearing breaks down your bone which causes more bone to be built.

weight bearing physical activity

What is a short load system?

Electrical load forecasting. "A good electrical load forecast has a direct and significant impact on costly generating unit startups and shutdowns, energy purchases, managing system demand as well as scheduling system upgrades based on predicted load growth."

What is the best way to perform a load test?

The best way to perform a load test on a website is to use online tools made for this precise purpose. Load testing, also known as stress testing, can be performed using tools from Hewlett Packard, Load Impact, or from a number of other sources.

What is a dynamic load on a CD case?

A dynamic load on a CD case refers to the impact or force exerted on the case when it is being moved or used, such as when it is dropped, bumped, or crushed. This load can cause stress on the case and potentially lead to damage or breakage of the CD inside.

What is the impact load of a free falling body?

I am not sure what you mean by "impact load"; it doesn't seem to be a physical concept. An object that impacts can:* Transfer momentum, calculated as mass x velocity. * Convert its kinetic energy (1/2 x mass x speed squared) into other forms of energy.
