A candle is made up of paraffin wax, stearic acid and a wick.

If we take 10 spoons of wax we should put one spoon of stearic acid and insert a suitable wick according to the size of the candle.

Three things are required for something to burn; fuel, sufficient heat and the availablity of Oxygen. The Oxygen is present in the air, the initial heat is supplied by a match or a lighter and the fuel is the melting wax from which the candle is made.

Candles smell because they have fragrance oils in them that put off the smell once the candle is lit.

Some candles may have a certain amount of essential oils in them without the fragrance/essential oils they would not have a smell besides the smell of the wax itself that puts off little to no smell at all.

perfumes.

Fragrance oils are added to candles to make them smell good.

Safe essential oils are sometimes added too.

Some perfumes can be toxic or maybe even start a fire when lit.

Make sure to use fragrance oils that are used for candle making.

Lighting the wick is the catalyst for making the candle melt. At first, the wick itself catches on fire until the wick burns down to the wax. When it reaches the wax, the flame turns solid wax to liquid wax (because the flame reaches the temperature needed for this physical change). Then, the liquid wax evaporates and enters into the flame area. This combustion creates energy, which creates even more heat and melts more wax. This cycle continues until there is no more wax to continue this combustion.

Hope that helps! It's pretty detailed.

Candles are scented with fragrance oils. These are a combination of a liquid fragrance and an oil that make a thicker liquid solution. If you think about it, most of the things in your life have some of these oils in them. It could be the scents that make your shower gel seem like a summer breeze or the fragrance that makes your dish-washing soap smell like a ripe lemon. Scents are in almost everything these days. Why, then, do candles seem so much better when it comes to scents?

A candle can smell many different scents like fruits or flowers. Also, there are some that just smell plain nasty!
