There is actually no such thing.

Muesli became popular in the 1960s mostly adapting the original recipe and substituting milk as the soaking liquid rather than the original water and lemon juice (or Orange Juice). Originally it was tied in with the vegetarian movement and in the 1970s with the hippy movement in the UK.

The phrase "knit their own muesli" was originally part of a derogatory description - often associated with the British Liberal party who conference attendees were characterized as "long haired, bearded, sweater and sandal wearers who knit their own muesli".

Jeremy Paxman in his book "The Political Animal" describes the Liberal Party conferences of the era as "a place to wonder whimsically about what would happen if they ruled the world and everybody knitted their own muesli".

Knitting is quite simply a process of pulling loops through loops. One needle has a string of loops on it. As each loop is pushed, one-by-one, to the tip of the left needle, the right needle is used to form a new loop of yarn and pull that new loop through the old. Once the new loop is formed, the old loop can be dropped from the left needle. In this way the stitches are systematically moved from the left needle to the right needle. Once all the stitches are on the right needle, simply swap hands so that the full needle is on the left and the empty needle on the right and start again.

Knitting produces a fabric that is stretchier than either weaving or crochet and knitting was originated in Scotland
