To be successful, a business of any nature has to bridge two knowledge gaps. The first knowledge gap is between the knowledge it has and the knowledge it should have to achieve its short-term business objectives. The second knowledge gap is between the knowledge it has and the knowledge it should have at some point in future to achieve its business objectives proposed for that time in future. Knowledge Management is a process whereby a person (be it an individual or an organization) identifies the amount and nature of knowledge it requires to achieve its short-term and long-term business objectives; and design and implement a system which allows it to manage the acquisition (including generation, purchase and rental), maintenance (including storage, updating and discarding), sharing, dissemination, and more importantly, the usage and leverage of such knowledge.

Just the basic management knowledge is not quite sufficient to be a successfull manager.
