What is the difference between high index and polycarbonate lenses?

High-index lenses are an alternative choice to standard, plastic eyeglass lenses. Although high-index lenses are more expensive than plastic lenses, they can reduce the thickness and weight of an eyeglass lens, particularly for individuals with a strong prescription. High-index lenses are able to bend light to a stronger degree than a lens with a lower index, therefore the higher the index of the lens the less material needed to achieve a given prescription. High index lenses are categorized according to how strongly they bend light. The higher the index, 1.53 to 1.74 for high-index lenses, the better the lens is at bending light. High index lenses are 20 percent to 65 percent thinner than standard plastic lenses. In general, the stronger the prescription, the greater the difference in thickness between standard plastic and high-index plastic. A reduction in lens thickness and weight will occur in high-index lenses for prescriptions stronger than +2.00 or -2.50. Weaker prescriptions are not thinner than standard lenses when made with high-index materials. Polycarbonate lenses offer the same aesthetic benefits as high-index lenses, but polycarbonate lenses scratch easier, are difficult to coat or tint and are more likely to create distortions in colors and vision.

Which DSLR is better Nikon D40 or D60 Money nor lens being an issue because I own a Nikkor 28mm a Nikkor 52mm and a Telephoto 180-300mm lens occcasionaly I will make poster size prints?

You list the 28mm & 50mm prime lenses. If these are AF lenses, they will only autofocus on the midrange and up Nikon cameras. The Entry level D40, D60, and D5000 cameras do not have autofocus motors in body, they rely upon an AF-S lens for autofocus. To replace those lenses with AF-S versions would cost more than a body with a motor. With that said, the very best non-pro Nikon camera that you can buy for less than $1000 is the Nikon D90. This camera will take advantage of the existing lenses that you have. If the D90 is out of price range, go for one of the older ones that have a motor used. These would be the D80, D70. I don't think you would be interested in the D200, D300, D700, D3, or D3x because you were initially looking at the D40 & D60. If you can spend a little more, the sweet spot right now is probably the D700 full frame camera recertified which would provide amazing image quality and could be obtained for about $2000 recertified.

Why is the Carl Zeiss lens used in mobiles What is its significance?

Mobile camera and phones, mostly sony, use Carl Zeiss lenses because he is a famous lens designer. Carl Zeiss makes some of the highest end lenses for professional cameras and his work and meticulous level of detail carries over to the smaller cameras even though they are less personal and a lot less expensive. They are just Zeiss designed and not manufactured. Overall though in a day where glass is more important than your megapixels having a good lens like a zeiss in your point and shoot is a good thing.

What is the best way to photograph underwater through a glass?

The answer, of course, depends on which camera you are using, what objects you'll photograph, and the desired style of your photo. Style: Let's start with style of photo first. If you want a wider angle, curved view, fisheye look, you'll want a fisheye lens. If not, you'll select a rectilinear lens. Some fisheye lenses can capture 180 degree field of view and distort the image. If you're taking a picture of a single shark, for example, a fisheye lens may not produce the most pleasing image. Objects: If shooting large aquatic animals, you'll typically want a rectilinear zoom lens. Because it's difficult to obtain quality photographs from a distance underwater, the focal length will still be fairly short, usually less than 24mm. For smaller objects, you'll typically want shorter focal lengths. Camera: Canon and Nikon have excellent lens choices, but third party lens manufacturers also make great lenses, but are typically less expense. Here's a good lens list for Nikon and Canon: For Nikon: Fisheye: Nikon 10.5mm (cropped sensor) Tokina 10-17mm (cropped sensor) Rectilinear: Nikon 10-24mm (cropped sensor) Nikon 12-24mm (cropped sensor) Sigma 8-16mm (cropped sensor) Tokina 12-24mm (cropped sensor) For Canon: Fisheye: Canon 15mm Sigma 15mm Tokina 10-17mm (cropped sensor) Rectilinear: Canon 10-22mm (cropped sensor) Sigma 10-20mm Sigma 8-16mm (cropped sensor) Tokina 12-24mm (cropped sensor)

What are the best contacts if your eyes are getting really dry and blurry and you have astigmatism?

theres: Soft Toric Lenses - Toric lenses have two powers in them, created with curvatures at different angles (one for astigmatism, the other for either myopia or hyperopia). There's also a mechanism to keep the contact lens relatively stable on the eye when you blink or look around. To provide crisp vision, toric contact lenses cannot rotate on your eye RPG(rigid gas permeable) Lenses - Unlike hard plastic lenses, RGP lenses are gas permeable. That is, they allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea. They are less expensive and more durable than soft contact lenses, and provide wearers with clearer, sharper vision. Unlike soft contact lenses, RGP lenses have a low water content and therefore, resist protein deposits and bacteria. Because they are rigid, they hold their shape when the wearer blinks, allowing for crisper vision. Other benefits include ease of handling and ease of care. Because they do not contain water, proteins from the eye do not build up on the lens, so the lens stays cleaner, and requires less maintenance. RGP's are not for every patient. Because of their rigid form, they require more break in time for the patient to become comfortable with wearing the lenses. Also, if you discontinue wearing your RGP lenses for a few days, it may be difficult to become used to wearing them again. RGP's differ from soft contacts in that becoming comfortable with wearing a rigid lens requires the patient to wear their lenses all the time. Soft contact lens users may discontinue wearing their lenses for a few days, and immediately be comfortable with having them inserted again.

Is it best to use a mirrored or non mirrored camera for astrophotography?

It could be a matter of personal preference because there are advantages and disadvantages to both. A mirror lens has the advantage of being lighter, shorter and generally less expensive than its glass lens counterpart. It is also free from chromatic aberration since there are no lenses. However, the view is on the dim side as a typical 500mm mirror lens has an aperture of F8, which is fixed. Conventional lenses at the same price point may also be F8 or 6.3/5.6, and you can buy one at F2.8 but it costs more than most compact/mid size cars!
