What is meant by Enlightenment?

In Buddha's search of truth about sufferings of life of human beings,enlightenment was the ultimate destination. According to Buddha, enlightenment meant true knowledge about life and death. To attain enlightenment, Buddha left his palace and broke all his worldly ties at the age of 29 years. Then he meditated hard and lived a life of difficulties in forest of Uruvela near Gaya. Finally, after six years Buddha attained enlightenment in Bodh Gaya under the Bodhi Tree. then he came to be known as " BUDDHA- the enlightened one."
