APEX- 2Kl and 2KCl
You need the same number of Cl K and I on each side of the equation. The skill is kind of similar to finding common denominators. Really it just takes some practice to get good at these.
There are 2 Chlorine at a minimum on left side, so you must have a multiple of 2 Chlorine on the right side as well. There are 2 Iodine on the right, so you must have a multiple of 2 Iodine on the left. So multiply the KI by 2, and KCl by 2,
and this will balance: Cl2 + 2(KI) --> 2(KCl) + I2
An inventory of each side will reveal that you have 2 each of Cl, K & I on each side of the equation, so it is balanced.
The object of balancing equations is to have the same number of atoms of each element on both sides. In this problem, you have two imbalanced elements, Cl and I, so you will need to add coefficients to the molecules to make these elements match up. Let's start with Cl; you have two Cl atoms on the first side, but only one on the second. Multiplying KCl by 2 would give you two Cl atoms on both sides. So far, we have Cl2 + KI -> 2KCl + I2. At this point, you have an extra K atom on the second side, and now need to balance it by putting another K on the first side. This can be done by multiplying KI by 2 to give us Cl2 + 2KI -> 2KCl + I2. Now there are two Cl atoms, two k atoms and two I atoms on each side, so we know the problem is finished. Btw, the number of each atom doesn't matter, as long as they are the same on both sides of the equation.
Potassium reacts with chloride in the following reaction. 2 K + Cl2 = 2 KCl. This means that every mole of potassium creates a mole of potassium chloride.
Cl2 + 2KBr -----> Br2 + 2KCl
2 KCl = Cl2 + 2 K
2ki and 2kci
I is replaced by Cl.So KCl and I2 is formed.
This is most often called a "single displacement" reaction.
F2 + 2 KCl -------> 2 KF + Cl2
KMnO4 + HCl = Cl2 + H2O + KCl + MnCl2 After you balance it: 2KMnO4 + 16HCl = 5Cl2 + 8H2O + 2KCl + 2MnCl2
2ki and 2kci
The balanced equation is Cl2 + 2 KBr -> Br2 + 2 KCl.
I is replaced by Cl.So KCl and I2 is formed.
The reaction is:Cl2 + 2 Ki = 2 KCl + I2
This is most often called a "single displacement" reaction.
F2 + 2 KCl -------> 2 KF + Cl2
The reaction with chlorine is:2 KBr + Cl2 = 2 KCl + Br2
KMnO4 + HCl = Cl2 + H2O + KCl + MnCl2 After you balance it: 2KMnO4 + 16HCl = 5Cl2 + 8H2O + 2KCl + 2MnCl2
The reaction presumably is Cl2 + 2 KBr = 2KCl + Br2. The potassium chloride (KCl) is a salt.
2 KMnO4 + 16 HCl = 5 Cl2 + 8 H2O + 2 KCl + 2 MnCl2
KCl + Br2
kbr + cl2
