Is there a lapse in coverage on an insurance policy if the policy was cancelled and then reinstated?

Technically, the policy lapsed. If a covered loss occurred before reinstatement, the insurer would arguably be justified in denying coverage. However, if the reinstatement was retroactive to the lapse date (which would probably occur if the reinstatement occurred quickly), and if you have been with the insured for some time, coverage may be extended to the intervening loss.

What happens when you don't pay your insurance?

It lapses which means it cancels. Most insurances will do this after 30 days of unpaid premiums but some can be as quick as 1 day late (cobra) and some allow up to 90 days (Aflac). If a policy lapses, you might have reinstatement or reactivation provisions. Reinstatement is where they will activate the policy with lapse in coverage and Reactivation is where they will activate the policy without lapse in coverage by accepting payment for back premium. Ask about both and your options.AnswerIf you do not pay your premium two things may happen: If it is a term policy, it will lapse; If it is any type of a cash value policy, the premium will be taken (in most cases automatically) from the cash value. If the cash value is not sufficient, the policy will lapse. Before any of this happens though, the insurance company you are with will send you a notice that will tell you exactly how much you need to pay and by what date in order to keep the policy in force.

Does an effective date mean the reinstatement date or policy effective date in a reinstatement policy document?

What is the meaning of reinstatement?

Reinstatement simply means getting your coverage back to active. Most policies cancel when payments are not received on a timely manner, causing a policy to cancel (no coverage). Once payment is received, a company will usually reinstate a policy, sometimes without lapse (depending on how many days the polilcy has been cancelled).

Why is your insurance agent sending you a premium notice?

Normally the premium notice comes directly from the insurer. However, if one or more premiums have been missed, and the policy is at risk for lapsing (terminating for nonpayment), the insurer may notify the agent. The agent may therefore notify you of the impending lapse and the need to make premium payments so as to prevent the lapse.

What does reinstatement mean in buildings insurance policies?

I would suggest the explanation is as follows. When we are talking about "Reinstatment" in the insurance industry it refers to an insurance policy that has gone into a lapse status or cancellation status due to non-pay. You would then need to reinstate your policy or put it back in force. I am not sure how it works with P&C policies such as Fire or Building insurance as you call it but I would imagine you would need to pay any back due premiums and prove that there have been no losses. Usually in P&C from my experiences once a policy lapses you don't re-instate the old policy but rather re-write a new one....if the company or any company will now take you. In any insurance, never let the policy lapse! 4lifeguild I think when we discuss reinstatement with reference to the building point of view that's mean that building (subject matter) suffers a loss but still building can reshape or rebuild in the same condition without demolishing it as it was before the loss, this is called reinstatement of the building.
