I am not sure what you mean by ontology in this context. By man I assume you mean humanity. Man's ultimate purpose is to live and flourish, forever or as close to forever as possible. As individuals occupying physical bodies, all men die. In favorable environments offspring born to one generation will outlast the former. By assuring that future generations inherit an environment as favorable to flourishing as possible, man fulfills its purpose.
