Although the Chinese had paper constructs long before the Japanese, today's origami shares much with the ritual Japanese forms from the 17th century. In classic origami, paper is folded to create three-dimensional forms, including animals and containers. Some shapes can move as the folds are manipulated. It is similar to paper airplanes: a plain sheet of paper is folded to form a useful or decorative shape. It is important to note that origami creations have no tape, glue, or any other substance holding them together. They are completely held together by folds of paper.
