The preferential discharge of ions is affected by the kind of electrode used in the reaction and also the concentration of the ions in the solution this especially pertains to solutions containing halides
Preferential discharge is when an ion is discharged in preference to another. for e.g if in an electrolyte there are copper and sodium ions, the copper ions will be discharged in preference to the sodium ions this is because sodium is a reactive metal whereas copper is not.
to help you there is the 'ease of discharge table'
CATIONS PRODUCT AT THE CATHODE
k+ hydrogen
Na+ hydrogen
Ca+ hydrogen
Mg+ hydrogen
Zn2+ zinc
Pb2+ lead
Cu2+ copper
Ag+ silver
hydrogen ions are discharged in preference to potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium because they are reactive metals.
ANIONS PRODUCT AT ANODE
Cl- chlorine
Br- bromine
I- iodine
SO42- oxygen from water
NO3- oxygen from water
o2 from H2O is discharged in preference to SO42- and NO3- ions
This table apply to any electrolysis.
This is the order in which ions are discharged in an electrolytic process or electrolysis
It's an example of electrolysis. Not unwanted hair removal, but that does use the same process. Electrolysis is the process of breaking down compounds by running an electric current through them.
Because that's not what electrolysis is about. From Wikipedia: "...The key process of electrolysis is the interchange of atoms and ions by the removal or addition of electrons from the external circuit..." When electrons just pass through a metal, no atoms or ions are exchanged - only the electrons.
a chemical decomposition reaction produced by passing an electric current through a solution containing ions is known as electrolytic decomposition reaction
Brine elctrolysis is where a solution of sodium chloride (common table salt) dissolved in water is broken down into chlorine gas, hydrogen gas, hydroxide ions and sodium ions by passing and elctrical curren through the solution. The chlorine gas will liberate at the cathode and hydogen at the anode, and the two ions produced will combine to form a solution of sodium hydroxide, a very strong alkali which has many applications. (The NaOH solution will be, when the reaction is complete, in place of the NaCl solution). Hope this is useful!!
Ions made up of more than one atom are called polyatomic ions.
how am i suposed to answer it if i am asking wat it is
The color fades as there is a discharge of copper two ions to form copper atoms
The result of electrolysis is the separation of a molecule in ions: cations and anions.
The cathode, where the +ions in solution accept electrons and become neutral metal atoms.

Because it is an electrolyte in water and becomes ionized and ions are attracted towards corresponding electrodes during the electrolysis.
The process is called Electrolysis.
The electrolysis ionize the particles/ molecules present in the particles and charged the positive and negative ions. Positive ions collected on negative electrode and Negative ions collected on positive electrodes.
In molten sodium chloride the free moving particles are Na+ and Cl- ions, during electrolysis sodium ion moves towards cathode and chloride ion towards anode.
Anode
It is needed to cause the ions to seperate.
