it depends on your age, health and status. During pregnancy, no more than 200 mg or so, about the amount of 2 cups a day. In general, 3 cups a day max is a safe amount, since caffeine contributes to osteoporosis, at all ages.

Does caffeine have an effect on life expectancy?

There is some argument to the effect that high caffeine intake may affect health and life expectancy in general by interrupting the natural sleep cycle and the quality of sleep. Caffeine itself has not been shown to be harmful in the sense of its direct effects on body systems. It would seem to be a case of "good things in moderation." The maximum recommended daily intake of caffeine is around 400 mg/day, or about 4 strong cups of coffee.

How much caffeine should a cardiac patient consume?

While a layman may come to the obvious conclusion that a stimulant such as caffeine may be inappropriate for a cardiac patient, this is patently a question that should be asked of one's personal physician. Only your own doctor - or other medical professional - having personal knowledge of your situation, can provide a meaningful answer to what food and/or drink you should have, and in what quantities. I urge that any who wonder about such things consult with a qualified medical professional at once.
