2x2 rib refers to K2P2 ribbing. K2P2 ribbing means that you alternate two knit stitches with two purl stitches across the width of the work. Similarly, 1x1 ribbing is sometimes called K1P1 ribbing, and you'd alternate knits and purls across the work. Other sorts of ribbing my be notated as 3x1 (K3P1) or 3x2 (K3P2). The total length and width of the pattern (of whatever ribbing you are knitting) will be specified by the particular pattern that you are knitting. The number (1,2,3...) with the ribbing only specifies how wide the ribs will be.

The simplest rib stitch is this. Count stitches for even, then k2,p2 to the end of the row. Make sure that you reverse the order of stitches when you turn the row, in other words, start with k2 on the p2 you just finished. This will give you a nice even rib stitch piece. Continue for the length desired.

A pattern created by knitting one stitch then purling one stitch, and on the next row, knit the knit stitches, purl the purl stitches, for as many rows as shown in your pattern, written as 'K1, P1 for 1" or 6 rows...'

There are many different variations on knot-type stitches. Probably the simplest would be to pull five loops from a single stitch, the knit those five stitches back together. You can pull multiple loops in a stitch by inserting the needle through the front of the stitch (front-to-back) and pulling a loop, then from the back-to-the-front and pulling a second loop, and so on until you've pulled five loops. Insert the left needle into all five loops at once, and in front of the right need. Now with both needles through all five loops, knit the five loops together. One knotted stitch made.

Stockinette stitch simply means one side of the fabric is all knit stitches and the reverse side is all purl stitches. If you are knitting a flat piece, by going back and forth, thenyou knit one row, then purl the next, alternating the two rows.

If you are knittingin the round (a round tube with no back-and-forth) then simply knit all the stitches without ever purling and you'll create stockinette stitch that way.

If you are referring to a "Purl" stitch, do as follows (if you are knitting right handed):

1. Bring the yarn to the front of the work (this will be opposite of what you do when making a knit stitch).

2. Insert the right needle into the stitch on the left needle from right to left, then loop the yarn over the right needle.

3. Pull the loop through the stitch and pull the stitch from the left needle to the right needle.

If that is confusing, here is a video:

What is difference between knit and rib yarn?

A plain knit is simply knitting each stitch on the front or public side of the fabric and purling each stitch on the back or private side of the fabric. This stitch is called stockinette stitch. Garter stitch, where each and every row is knit across, regardless of whether you are working the front or back side, produces horizontal ridges that are somewhat similar to ribbing turned 90 degrees and somewhat stretchy, but not as stretchy as ribbing. Ribbing is created by knitting a sequence of knit and purl stitches to create raised vertical ridges in the fabric which are especially elastic and well suited to cuffs and necks. The most common ribbing patters are 1 x 1 and 2 x 2. For 1 x 1 ribbing: *K1, P1, repeat from * across For 2 x 2 ribbing: *K2, P2, repeat from * across There are other combinations possible, such as 3 x 3 or 2 x 3 or what ever your heart desires, but 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 are the most commonly used rib patterns. A plain knit is simply knitting each stitch on the front or public side of the fabric and purling each stitch on the back or private side of the fabric. This stitch is called stockinette stitch. A rib knit is created by knitting 2 stitches, and purling 2 stitches, over and over. Example: cast on 10 stitches. knit 2,purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2 next row: purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2 Repeat these rows for about 4 inches, and you'll see the rib knit pattern. Another version of rib knit, is, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl one. You'll get the same pattern as above, just in more narrow rows. Rib knit is commonly seen on sock cuffs, and sweater cuffs.

How do you form the crown decrease rows when knitting a hat in rib k1p1 stitch?

When you reach a purl stitch approximately where you want to make your decrease, knit it together with the following knit stitch. This will make two knit stitches in a row, followed by a single purl. Place a marker and move to the next place to decrease and repeat. If you consistently knit together the last two stitches before your markers, you will form an attractive pattern in the ribs as you decrease.

What is the most common knit stitch used for beginners?

The most common knit stitch used for beginners is... wait for it... the knit stitch! The other most common knit stitch is called the purl stitch. These are the two basic stitches in knitting and when they are put together in different ways, they create different patterns! When you knit every row, that's called the garter stitch and when you knit one row and purl the next row, that's called the stockinette stitch.

What are the types of knit fabric?

1. Garter Stitch: either all knit stitch or all purl stitch. This fabric has small ridges on back and front, making it reversible, and one of the most basic fabrics 2. Stockinette Stitch: knit one row, purl one row. This fabric is smooth with V's on one side and ridges on the other. It is the most popular stitch, often used for socks, sweaters, hats, and other clothing items 3. Rib Stitch: ROW 1:knit one, purl one ROW 2: Knit into knitted stitches, purl into purled stitches. This fabric has vertical "stripes" of V's and ridges. It reversible, thick, stretchy, and often used on cuffs and collars * you can also form a double rib by using a knit 2, purl 2 pattern 4. Seed Stitch: ROW 1: knit one, purl one ROW 2: knitted into purled stitches, purl into knitted stitches. This is a thin, decorative fabric and my personal favorite By combining these four basic fabrics, you can make hundred of other patterns to suit your liking
