What is secularism?

Answer

Quite basically, secularism refers to the belief that religion has no place in the day to day activities of governing bodies. eg. the view that public education and other matters of civil policy should be conducted without the introduction of a religious element.

Specifically, the noun, secularism, is a doctrine that rejects religion and religious considerations.
