Nuclear energy is energy in the nucleus (core) of an atom. It is generated using Uranium, which is a metal mined in various parts of the world. The first large-scale nuclear power station opened at Calder Hall in Cumbria, England, in 1956. Nuclear power produces around 11% of the world's energy needs, and produces huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel, without the pollution that you'd get from burning fossil fuels.
Good and bad
Good:Nuclear energy is good because it does not cause pollution by producing greenhouse gases and contributing to global warming.
Bad:
Nuclear energy produces long-lived radioactive waste. There is also a possibility of accidents that would release radioactive material into the environment.
It is non-renewable.
