The second lightest element on the Periodic Table is Helium (He). The easiest way to tell this is by the numbers on the periodic table, all elements are in atomic weight order (super-light gases to super-heavy elements).

Presumably you are talking about molecular mass, in which Hydrogen would be the lightest element.

In gaseous form, Hydrogen is also lighter than other elements (at the same temperature/pressure), and thus it was commonly used in early blimps prior to the traumatic explosion of the Hindenburg.

The lightest is Hydrogen, then comes Helium, and so on. If you have a periodic table with you, it just goes in the order of the numbers they are labeled.

Hope that helped. If it didn't, just add on to the answer and say what you need to know.
